Nissan Juke Details

(Wed 10 Feb 10)

Even though it won't go on public display until the Geneva Show next month, Nissan has spilled the beans on its new small sport/SUV crossover, the Juke, which will go on sale in the UK in October.

Nissan Juke 02.

There is already quite a lot of British influence in the Juke. It was largely styled by London-based Nissan Design Europe, and it will be built alongside the Micra, Note and Qashqai at the Nissan factory in Sunderland. Underneath the dramatic looks it's actually closely related to two of those models, being based on the same platform as the Micra and Note (and Renault Clio and Modus), and the 1.5-litre dCi turbo diesel which makes up one-third of the original engine line-up is shared with all of them.

The naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol engine is a development of an existing unit, while the Juke will also be sold with a new direct-injection turbo petrol which produces no less than 187bhp. The ultimate version uses this engine along with a CVT gearbox and four-wheel drive; all other Jukes are front-wheel drive and most have manual transmission, though the non-turbo 1.6 is also available with CVT.

Luggage capacity - if you include an underfloor storage area which is not found in the 4x4 because there's no space for it - is modest at 251 litres (the same as a Micra but less than a Note) with the rear seats in place, but Nissan says that those seats can be folded completely flat, in a 60/40 split arrangement, which should help practicality.

Like other Nissans, this one has the oddly-named trim levels of Visia, Acenta and Tekna (in ascending order). Exact details of what equipment is available have not yet been confirmed, but this, along with UK pricing, will no doubt be revealed well in advance of the October on-sale date.
