(Thu 18 Feb 10) The mid-range turbo diesel engine in the Skoda Superb has been replaced by a more modern unit which gives better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions in the EU test procedure.
Compared with the previous 2.0 TDI 140 PD, the new 2.0 TDI 140 CR gives the car similar performance (power output remaining constant at 138bhp), but combined economy has improved from 47.9mpg to 52.3mpg, and the CO2 rating has dropped by 12g/km to 143g/km, which leads to a £25 drop (or £30 from April) in VED payments compared with the PD. The new model goes on sale today with a choice of S, SE or Elegance trim level, six-speed manual or DSG transmissions and hatchback or estate body styles. Prices start at £18,205.
