The Next Porsche Cayenne

(Thu 25 Feb 10)

A heavily revised Porsche Cayenne range will have its world premiere at the Geneva Show next week, and will go on sale in the UK on May 29.

Porsche Cayenne 34 - Hybrid.

As well as a significant restyling, the new Cayenne is, model for model, lighter, more powerful and less thirsty than its predecessor. The most economical (in fact the best of all Porsches in this respect) is the new S Hybrid, which has a three-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine and an electric motor. Combined fuel consumption is 34.4mpg and the CO2 rating is 193g/km, making the Hybrid slightly more impressive in each case than the 3.0 V6 diesel model.

The S Hybrid is also much faster than the diesel, thanks to a total power output of 380bhp (the diesel peaks at 240bhp). At £57,610, though, it's also nearly £13,500 more expensive to buy.

Other cars in the range include the basic £41,404 Cayenne (power up to 300bhp, fuel economy around 20% better at 28.5mpg, thanks partly to Porsche's new eight-speed automatic transmission), the £53,693 400bhp 4.8-litre V8 Cayenne S and, at the top of the range, the £81,589 500bhp Cayenne Turbo.
