(Thu 14 Jan 10) A simple and not uncommon way of creating a really large MPV is to take a van and put some extra seats and windows in it, and that's what Nissan has done with the NV200.
The NV200 was launched last year, to considerable critical acclaim, and the new Combi version will go on sale in February. All versions have sliding rear doors which reveal a 60/40 split bench seat, and some have a third row of seats further back, allowing for up to seven passengers. The second- and third-row seats can be folded, leaving an enormous luggage capacity of around 3000 litres (slight more for the five-seater, slightly less for the seven). The cheapest model, at £15,685, is the S, which is available in five-seat form only and has a CD player with an MP3 jack, electric windows and door mirrors and a trip computer. The SE, starting at £16,977, gets alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers, air-conditioning and a reversing camera, while the £17,506 SE Plus comes with side airbags and is the only version with ESP. The extra seats add £382 to the price of the SE and SE Plus. All versions use the same 84bhp 1.5 dCi turbo diesel engine and five-speed manual gearbox. You'll gather from this that the NV200 Combi isn't quick, but its combined fuel economy of 53.3mpg is impressive, and official CO2 emissions are just 139g/km.
