(Mon 18 Jan 10) Peugeot has created a new 112bhp 1.6-litre HDI turbo diesel engine which is making its debut in the 308 CC.
Although it has the same name as the previous 1.6 HDI, fewer than half the components have been carried over to the new engine. Like the two- and three-litre versions introduced last year, it uses what Peugeot calls Extreme Combustion Chamber System technology, which basically improves performance, lowers emissions (particularly of oxides of nitrogen) and reduces the chances of fuel remaining unburned after the combustion process. The result of all this is that the 308 CC 1.6 HDI 112 has a combined fuel economy figure of 53.3mpg and a CO2 rating of 138g/km, while also meeting Euro 5 emissions legislation. Top speed is 119mph and the 0-62mph time is 13.9 seconds. The new car is available in Sport trim at £21,095 and in better-equipped SE form for £21,995. Comment on this story on Facebook or Twitter.
