(Mon 25 Jan 10) As the UK scrappage scheme nears its end (whether because the time or the money runs out) Hyundai has announced a remarkable new policy which will in effect keep it going, at least for its own customers.
It's called Trade & Upgrade, and it means that you can get £2000 for a seven- to ten-year old car towards the price of any new Hyundai. And anyone who bought an i10, i20 or i30 under the Government's scrappage scheme can pay £499, £599 or £749 respectively for a new, 10-plate car, immediately saving themselves the cost of the first service and VED payment. In this deal, which is called Happy Returns, customers will also be able to trade up or down (so if you bought an i20 you don't have to exchange it for another i20, for example) with appropriate adjustments to the price. On top of all this, everyone who bought a Hyundai of any kind under scrappage is to be sent a Friends and Family voucher, worth £250 off the cost of a new car, which they can pass on to anyone they want to.
