Volvo S60 Debut

(Tue 02 Mar 10)

Volvo's new S60, described several times in recent months as the sportiest car the company has ever produced, is having its world premiere at the Geneva Show this week.

Volvo S60 19.

When it goes on sale, the S60 will come with a choice of three engines - a 204bhp 2.4-litre D5 turbo diesel, a similar two-litre unit called D3 and producing a maximum of 163bhp, and the 304bhp three-litre petrol T6, which is the only one mated to a four-wheel drive system, all other models being front-wheel drive.

The engine range will expand considerably during the S60's first year of production to include three more turbocharged petrol engines called T3 (1.6 litres, 150bhp), T4 (1.6 litres, 180bhp) and T5 (two litres, 240bhp), along with a 115bhp 1.6-litre turbo diesel for the DRIVe model which has predicted combined economy and CO2 emissions of 65.7mpg and around 115g/km respectively.

Safety features include Pedestrian Detection (which can recognise the presence of anyone more than 80cm tall), Full Auto Brake, City Safety (first seen on the XC60), Driver Alert Control and Lane Departure Warning.

Exact details of UK specification and pricing have still to be confirmed.
