BMW 6-Series Gran Coupé
(Tuesday 29 May 2012)
BMW's first four-door coupé, based on the 6-Series, goes on sale in the UK in June. The Gran Coupé is available in three forms, each defined by its engine, though all use an eight-speed automatic gearbox. At the top of the tree is the 650i, whose 450bhp V8 engine gives the car a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds (top speed being limited, as with all the Gran Coupés, to 155mph).
The 640i petrol and 640d diesel have about the same power as each other, at 320bhp and 313bhp respectively, and share a 5.4-second 0-62mph time. Unsurprisingly, the diesel is slightly more expensive to buy but has by far the best fuel economy and CO2 emissions in the range at 49.6mpg and 148g/km.
The Gran Coupé is priced similarly to cheaper Porsche Panameras, with the 640i costing £61,390, the 640d £63,900 and the 650i £70,650.
