Chevrolet Camaro In The UK
(Wednesday 13 June 2012)

The latest Chevrolet Camaro has gone on sale in the UK at a very slightly higher price than previously announced last year. Since then there has been a £30 increase in first-year taxation for cars with the Camaro's considerable CO2 emissions (304g/km or more depending on the specific model) which means that the coupé costs £35,025 without optional extras and the convertible £40,025.
Every Camaro has a 6.2-litre V8 engine, but there are two kinds. The 426bhp LS3 applies if the car has manual transmission, while automatics get a 399bhp L99. LS3 coupés have a 0-62mph time of 5.2 seconds, to which you can add 0.2 seconds for the convertible and a further 0.2 for the L99. Top speed is 155mph in every case.
European Camaros are largely based on the US-market 2SS, but Chevrolet has developed a suspension set-up specifically for this side of the Atlantic. "Our objective was to create a more precise sport suspension with greater road-handling capability," says Chief Engineer Al Oppenheiser.
"We applied lessons learned from extensive track testing to better the suspension geometry for flatter cornering, a more neutral balance during hard turns and minimised understeer at the limit."
