(Tue 22 Dec 09) Volkswagen is putting its 120bhp 1.4 TSI petrol engine - already used in several other VW Group products - into the Scirocco. This is the slowest version (though not by much, with a top speed of 124mph and a 0-62mph time of 9.7 seconds) and the most economical of the petrol models at 441.mpg combined. CO2 emissions are 146g/km.
The 1.4 TSI has a six-speed manual gearbox, 17" alloy wheels, an iPod-ready audio system with 6-CD autochanger, air-conditioning, a multifunction computer and automatic headlights and wipers. It's the cheapest car in the range at £18,860 (plus £765 for the optional adaptive chassis control system, which gives a choice of damper settings) and it goes on sale on January 4. Meanwhile, Volkswagen has also announced a styling pack for Scirocco GT models. It consists of 19" ten-spoke gloss black alloy wheels and Piano Black decorative inserts for the interior, and it costs £950. Comment on this story on Facebook or Twitter.
