(Tue 04 May 10) Talk about instant classics: Audi is building a new GT version of its R8 supercar, and just 33 examples will be making their way to the UK.
The starting point for the GT is the R8 5.2 FSI V10. That car has a maximum output of 518bhp, but the same engine has been uprated in the GT to produce 552bhp, while a comprehensive lightening programme (extending even to the battery and the noise insulation) has resulted in a weight drop of 100kg to 1525kg. Thanks to these two factors, the GT has a 0-62mph time of just 3.6 seconds. 0-124mph takes 10.8 seconds, and the top speed is the highest of any road-going Audi at 199mph. Performance like this takes some controlling, so Audi has fitted ceramic brakes and manually adjustable suspension as standard. GTs also use nothing but the six-speed twin-clutch semi-automatic transmission - you can't get one with a manual gearbox. The GT costs £142,585, and will be available to order in the summer. First deliveries are expected next spring. Comment on this story on Facebook or Twitter. Previous: Volkswagen Tiguan Match Next: Electric Volkswagens |
