Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake Prices

(Tuesday 21 August 2012)

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake which made its world debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in June will become available to order in the UK from the middle of September, priced from £49,360.

That amount buys you the basic CLS 250 CDI, which has a 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine producing a maximum of 204bhp. There's also a 265bhp three-litre V6 diesel for the CLS 350 CDI, and in the same (un-named) trim level that one costs £53,000.

Apart from the engines, the other difference between the cars is that the 250 has a Becker Map Pilot system, while the 350 has the COMAND Online multimedia set-up. Common to both, however, are 18" alloy wheels, seven-speed automatic transmission, metallic paint, leather upholstery, bi-xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors, rear air suspension (to compensate for heavy loads), a powered tailgate and a total luggage volume, with the three rear seats folded down, of 1550 litres.

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake. One step up from all this, each car is also available in AMG Sport form, with 19" wheels, LED headlights with Intelligent Light System, AMG bodystyling, uprated suspension, more efficient brakes and sports steering wheel and pedals. AMG Sport versions of the 250 and 350 cost £52,370 and £55,995 respectively.

With the exception of one very special model which we'll come to shortly, that's the whole range, but it's not the end of the specification. Optional extras for the Shooting Brake are many and various, and include (in ascending order of expense), a load-securing kit with a rear sill protector for £255, privacy glass for £365, aluminium rails for £870, a manually folding towbar for £880, semi-active air suspension for £1150 and - will you take a look at this - a Cherry Wood load compartment with black inlays for £4030. No, that's not a typo.

The other car mentioned in the previous paragraph is the CLS 63 AMG. This one is a different prospect entirely - its 5.5-litre V8 engines has a maximum output of no less than 557bhp, and its starting price is £83,030.
