New Volkswagen Touran Revealed

(Fri 09 Apr 10)

The latest version of the Touran, Volkswagen's Golf-based compact MPV, has been unveiled at the Leipzig Motor Show. To some extent it's just a facelifted version of the current model, with a close family resemblance to the Polo, Golf and Touareg, but there is a bit more to it than that.

Volkswagen Touran 22.

For example, the range of engines has been revised, and now includes 104bhp 1.2 and 138bhp 1.4 TSI units, along with 89bhp and 104bhp versions of a 1.6 TDI diesel and a 2.0 TDI which comes in 138bhp and 168bhp forms. The least powerful petrol and diesel engines are available in the two BlueMotion version, which have start/stop technology and, in the case of the diesel, a 61.4mpg combined economy figure which is the best ever for a Volkswagen MPV.

The interior of the Touran has been revised, too, and there's a new Park Assist system which guides the car into end-on parking spaces as well as parallel-to-the-pavement ones.

First deliveries of the new Touran to the UK are expected in October. Prices will be announced nearer the time.
