The Next Mitsubishi Outlander
(Thursday 9 February 2012)

Mitsubishi will formally unveil its third Outlander crossover SUV at the Geneva Show in just under a month's time. Full details have not been confirmed for individual markets, but it looks like there's going to be a choice of two-litre petrol and 2.2-litre turbo diesel engines, two- or four-wheel drive and manual or automatic transmission.
Target CO2 emissions for the cleanest conventional model - presumably a front-wheel drive manual diesel with start/stop - are 130g/km. The plug-in hybrid which goes on sale in Japan towards the end of this year and will arrive in Europe in 2013 is hoped to reach as little as 50g/km.
Equipment available either as standard or optionally on the new Outlander will include a steering wheel that's adjustable for reach as well as height (not before time, either), dual-zone air-conditioning, xenon headlights, active cruise control, Forward Collision Mitigation and a lane departure warning system.
Intriguingly, the Outlander will go on sale first of all in Russia. Its appearance in European markets is due in late summer.
