Eleven years after production started, BMW has built its one millionth example of the X5 SUV. The historic car - an xDrive35i - emerged from BMW's Spartanburg factory in South Carolina and is now on its way to a customer in China.

The Spartanburg plant itself has now been in operation for 15 years, and is BMW's base for its X models, with the new X3 due to go into production there later this year. The X5 is exported to more than 120 countries.
