The Peugeot 207 Verve, previously available only with 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines, will be available with a couple of more powerful units from January.

These are another 1.4 petrol, but one that produces 95bhp rather than the existing version's 75bhp, and a 90bhp 1.6 HDi turbo diesel. Performance about the same in each case, but the HDi matches (at least officially) the smaller diesel's 64.2mpg combined fuel economy and 117g/km CO2 rating.

The 1.6 diesel is, however, the most expensive Verve at £13,894.66 or £14,481.90 in three- or five-door forms. The 95bhp 1.4 petrol costs £12,772/£13,309.24, while the 75bhp three-door remains the cheapest Verve at £12,330.62.
