Subaru Impreza Cosworth Details

(Wed 26 May 10)

Subaru has confirmed pricing and specification details for the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400, whose existence was confirmed back in March.

Subaru Impreza 105 - CS400.

The CS400 is almost certain to be the last of the high-performance Imprezas, since Subaru is in the process of forgetting its motorsport past and rebranding itself as primarily a manufacturer of four-wheel drive diesel cars. Still, as a last hurrah the CS400 is quite something. Cosworth has reworked the 2.5-litre turbo engine so that it now produces no less than 395bhp, which is enough to give the car a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds.

Top speed is limited to 155mph, and those of you who like more esoteric performance figures will be pleased to learn that the CS400 can cover a quarter mile from a standing start (basically a drag race) in 12.75 seconds, with a terminal speed of 107mph.

The brakes and suspension have been uprated to match, and the car sits on lighter-than-standard Team Dynamics Pro Race 18" alloy wheels and 245/40 Michelin SP3 tyres.

We reckoned right from the start that this would be an expensive car, and sure enough it costs £49,995. However, only 75 will go on sale in the UK - starting in June - and even at that price we're sure they will be snapped up very quickly.
