Suzuki Economy Concept And Low-CO2 Swift
(Wednesday 1 February 2012)

Suzuki has revealed images of the super-economical G70 Concept which will be put on display at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
It's an odd-looking little thing - we seem to detect echoes of the late-1960s Daf 55 at the front and the even older Citroen DS at the rear - but the shape is dictated largely by aerodynamic considerations. Light weight plays a part too; Suzuki mentions 730kg, and if this is the kerb weight it's 155kg less than that of the Alto city car.
With a petrol engine (not specified so far, but quite possibly a 660cc three-cylinder job) the G70 is said to have CO2 emissions, as measured on the EU test, of as little as 70g/km.
Much less outlandish is another Suzuki due to go on show at Geneva. This one looks like a regular Swift, but it's electric, and in the manner of the Chevrolet Volt it has an engine (definitely a 660cc three-cylinder this time) which doesn't power the car but acts as a range extender, recharging the battery on the move rather than obliging you to plug it into the mains.
