Tiny Engine For Ford Focus

(Monday 30 January 2012)

Ford Focus.

Ford's new three-cylinder turbo petrol EcoBoost engine - at just one litre the smallest the company has put into production for decades - is about to make its debut in the Focus range.

Despite its small size, this latest member of the EcoBoost family is available with a maximum output, in its more powerful form, of 123bhp. That's the same as the most powerful 1.6 non-turbo petrol in the range, but fuel economy and CO2 emissions are far better at 56.5mpg combined and 114g/km respectively for the five-door hatchback.

A 99bhp version of the same engine is also being added to the range, this one giving the five-door 58.9mpg and 109g/km.

The 1.0 EcoBoost is being offered in all trim levels apart from the entry-level Studio, and in hatchback and estate body styles. A car fitted with the 99bhp unit costs £250 more than one using the 104bhp 1.6 petrol, while the 123bhp has a £500 premium over the similarly powerful 1.6. The same engines will be launched in the C-MAX, Grand C-MAX and new B-MAX later this year.
