UK Car Registrations June 2012
(Thursday 5 July 2012)
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reports that new car registrations in the UK rose in June for the fourth successive month, the figure of 189,514 units being 3.5% ahead of the one for June 2011.
The Ford Fiesta regained its title of most registered car of the month, having been briefly knocked off that spot in May by the Vauxhall Corsa. These are also the most popular cars for the year to date, followed by the Ford Focus, Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Astra and - all very close together - the Nissan Qashqai, BMW 3-Series and Volkswagen Polo.
In 2012 so far, private buyers have accounted for 45% of all registrations, up on the 42.6% for the same period last year thanks to a decline in fleet and business user numbers. Diesel penetration is now up to 51.2% from exactly 50% in 2011, while there has been a slight increase in the number of alternative-fuel vehicles registered.
