Volkswagen Passat Named Best Towcar

The Volkswagen Passat Estate 2.0 TDI 170 BlueMotion is the best towcar you can buy in 2011, according to Practical Caravan magazine, What Car? and the Camping and Caravanning Club.
"The Volkswagen Passat Estate tows brilliantly," said Practical Caravan editor Nigel Donnolly at the Towcar Awards. "It's a pleasure to drive and travel in, economical to run and easy to live with. It also provides unshakeable stability and responsive steering, which leaves drivers fresh, ready to unhitch and start enjoying their holiday."
The Towcar Awards divide vehicles into categories according to their weight, with splits at 1425kg, 1575kg and 1725kg. The Passat took the honours in the up-to-1575kg group, while the others were won by the Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI Match, the Ford Mondeo Estate 2.0 TDCi 163 Titanium Powershift and the BMW 520d Touring SE automatic.
Further awards were given to the Chevrolet Orlando 2.0 VCDi LTZ (Budget MPV), Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer 1.7 CDTi 16v EcoFlex SE (Green) and Mazda CX-7 2.2D Sport Tech (Editor's Choice).
