Volkswagen Polo BlueGT Open For Ordering
(Thursday 18 October 2012)
As from today, UK Volkswagen dealers are able to accept orders for the new Polo BlueGT, which should start appearing on our roads in the middle of December.
The BlueGT uses the VW Group's very impressive 138bhp 1.4-litre TSI turbo petrol engine with cylinder deactivation, the latter being a system that essentially closes down half the unit when only a small amount of power is required.
In this way, the engine gives the car two characters. It's quick, with a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 130mph, but it also has official combined fuel economy of 61.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 107g/km, meaning annual Vehicle Excise Duty payments of just £20.
Those figures apply whether the car has three or five doors, or manual or DSG twin-clutch semi-automatic transmission. These things do affect the price, though, which ranges from £17,400 to £19,365.
For that you also get 17" multispoke alloy wheels, lowered suspension, Polo GTI instruments and roof lining, sports seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, cruise control, DAB digital radio, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity and XDS, Volkswagen's electronic equivalent of a limited slip differential.
