Volkswagen Up! Goes Automatic
(Thursday 2 August 2012)

The latest development in the Volkswagen up! city car range is the introduction of an automated manual gearbox. It's not a conventional automatic, but it will change gears by itself if required, or the driver can look after that sort of thing without having to press a clutch pedal.
As well as being slightly easier to drive than the manual versions, the automatic up!s also have marginally better official fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures, at 64.2mpg and 103g/km for those with 59bhp engines and 62.8mpg and 105g/km for the 74bhp ones.
Known as the ASG and adding £595 to the price of each car, the new transmission is being offered in both three- and five-door examples of the mid-range Move up! (though not the BlueMotion Technology versions) and better-equipped High up!
ASG up!s are available to order now, and first customer delivers are expected in October.
