Volvo V40 R-Design
(Tuesday 12 September 2012)
Volvo has confirmed that an R-Design version of its recently-launched V40 will go on sale in the UK next January.
Available with all the engines offered in other V40s, the R-Design is distinguished by a different front bumper design, a high-gloss grille, daytime running lights, a rear diffuser, twin exhaust tailpipes and five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels (normally 17" in diameter but optionally 18").
Inside, the R-Design has part-leather upholstery and its own instrument display, steering wheel, pedals and aluminium inlays. The Lux upgrade includes more leather, active xenon headlights, automatic wipers, cruise control, keyless start and what's described as "rear theatre lighting".
There's also an optional Sports chassis, a suspension set-up which, compared with the one known as Dynamic, features firmer springing and damping, thicker anti-roll bars and a 10mm lowered ride height, among other things. This arrangement is credited partly to Swedish racing driver Robert Dahlgren, a Volvo employee since 2004.
Pricing for the V40 R-Design will be confirmed in early October.
