World Car Of The Year Shortlists

(Tuesday 31 January 2012)

The 2012 World Car of the Year and World Performance Car awards, voted on by an international jury of 66 motoring journalists, will be presented at the New York International Auto Show in April. A month before that, the top three contenders will be announced at the Geneva Show, having been selected from the two lists published today.

In alphabetical order, the Car of the Year contenders at present are the Audi A6, Audi Q3, BMW 1-Series, BMW 3-Series, Chevrolet Volt (and Vauxhall Ampera, which amounts to the same thing), Citroen DS5, Ford Focus, Porsche 911, Range Rover Evoque and Volkswagen up!

The Porsche 911 is the only car on that list also to feature in the even more German-oriented World Performance Car line-up, which also includes the Audi RS 3, BMW 1-Series M Coupé, BMW M5, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Ferrari FF, Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, McLaren MP4-12C, Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG and Mercedes-Benz C 63 Coupé AMG Black Series.

Last year's World Car of the Year was the Nissan Leaf (also winner of the separate Car of the Year award), which narrowly beat the BMW 5-Series. The Ferrari 458 Italia is the reigning Performance Car title holder.
