We say Go anywhere in comfort, assuming you can afford it. The Range Rover is the ultimate luxury SUV.Performance Three powerful V8 petrol engines with a refined and equally-powerful diesel on older models. Modern Range Rovers have seen sense and largely offer refined, powerful diesel engines. Supercharged 5.0 V8 petrols are crazily powerful; the 313bhp 4.4 diesels develop a massive 516lb-ft of torque and hit 60mph in 7.5 seconds. Six-speed auto boxes are just right.Emissions 30mpg combined and 253g/km are possible with the diesel Range Rover – that’s as good as it gets but impressive given the Rangey’s sheer size.Driving Great suspension, stability, cornering and little body roll. Off-road ability is awesome. Driving the Range Rover feels like being the captain of a yacht; it’s somewhere between a performance SUV like the Range Rover Sport and a limo. Adaptive dynamics help on the road; Terrain Response allows for driving on several different surfaces. Pneumatic suspension can raise the Range Rover higher off the ground for serious mud-plugging.Feel Engines are smooth and quiet when cruising. Quiet and refined in the cabin, the Range Rover can take city driving, motorway cruising and mud plugging in its stride.Space The Range Rover hasp plenty of space for five, and there's a decent boot that's helped by a split tailgate. Around 1,000 litres as standard translates to over 2,000 with rear seats folded.Equipment All Range Rover trim levels come with cruise control, climate control, alloys and leather. It's Gadget City at higher trim levels. Fancy watching the television while parked? No problem.Price Expensive stuff. Diesel will take the sting out of fuel bills a little and residuals are strong, but the Range Rover starts at around £75K.Quality The Range Rover is sumptuous and hi-tech inside. Newer models should be much more reliable than previous models thanks to lots of hard work from Land Rover boffins.Safety Six bags, ABS, stability control and various other on- and off-road gadgetry should keep the Range Rover safe. Only four stars in Euro NCAP crash testing though.Pros Elite car luxury, awesome practicality and offroad ability; image.Cons Expensive, thirsty petrol engines.Alternatives Volvo XC90, BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne
