We say The ASX impresses in a number of key areas and offers a genuine alternative to more etablished crossover SUVs.Performance Just two engines in the range and because it’s much cheaper, most owners will go for the 1.6-litre petrol engine with 115bhp. It has a 0-60mph time of 11 seconds and a top speed of 115mph. While this is relaxed, the other engine is a 1.8-litre diesel with a punchier 147bhp. With this the ASX will do 0-60mph in 9.4 seconds and a top speed of 124mph. These two figures are slightly reduced however by the optional four-wheel drive system.Emissions The economic impact of the ASX is low for its vehicle class. The lesser 115bhp engine can do 47mpg and emits just 135g/km in CO2. The 1.8-litre diesel without four-wheel drive has a higher recorded fuel economy of 51mpg (considerably better during our test drive), while CO2 emissions are at 145g/km.Driving Leans more towards comfort then sportiness, it controls well and cornering grip is predictable.Feel With the 115bhp petrol its quite subdued but relaxed, while the more powerful diesel is eager and highly responsive. The ride is not uncomfortable and absorbs bumps well but body lean is noticeable through the corners.Space Plenty of room inside, four adults can be seated comfortable and even five will fit in reasonable comfort. The boot can also fit 442 litres worth of luggage, more than your average family hatchback.Equipment There are three trims which are all well equipped, the standard model gets alloy wheels, keyless entry and useful start-stop engine technology.Price New pricing currently ranges from £16,169 to £24,584.Quality Disappointingly the interior looks and feels cheap, although it least seems durable enough.Safety Reassuringly the ASX received a maximum five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash safety test.
