When speccing a new car, some drivers feel that choosing the right alloy wheel can make or break the look.
As new models now come with a large range of alloys so that people can show off their own style, designers are putting in lots of effort to ensure that their wheels are the best they can be to suit the car.
We take a look at the best ones available to cars this year…
Land Rover Defender V8
The limited-edition version of the legendary off-roader came with small, two-tone alloys that not only match the character of the rugged Defender, but also any body colour that one of the lucky owners would choose. The alloys complemented the look of the 4x4 perfectly and set a solid base for the model’s final hurrah.
DS 7 Crossback
The latest addition to the DS range promotes the brand’s avant-garde design ethos, and the wheels on the 7 only enhance it. The design looks great both standing still and on the move and the innovative five-spoke design is pretty futuristic too.
Hyundai i30N
For the South Korean brand’s first sporty car, the i30N needed stand-out alloys – and that’s exactly what it got. The continuous flower-like design of the silver is complemented by black shadowing and the alloys look great when surrounded in the standard Pirelli rubber.
BMW M5
For the latest version of the ultimate sports saloon, BMW needed alloys to complete the muscular look from the rest of the car. The two-tone, dual-element seven-spoke wheels do exactly that and ensures that the M5 is one of the most menacing cars on the road.
Renault Megane R.S.
To complement the angular look of the Megane R.S., Renault gave it some funky wheels that are just as pointy and just as cool. Renault has sometimes not been the most stylish brand, but if it can do this with the Megane, what can it do for its other cars?
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
To mirror the four-leaf clover logo for the Quadrifoglio sports arm, Alfa Romeo gave the excellent Giulia saloon wheels which reflect the sports saloon’s iconic badging. Well, whatever Alfa has done, it’s worked superbly, and the design of the Giulia QV is only enhanced by these alloys.
Audi RS4 Avant
Although they may not have the most conventional design, the sharp and somewhat random alloys for the sporty RS4 Avant work really well with the rest of the car. The matte silver is also bespoke to the RS4 and only adds to the overall design.
Suzuki Swift Sport
Five equally-spaced hexagons make up the alloy design for the warm hatchback – Suzuki has done a superb job here. Swift Sports need a bold design to them, and the with the 2018 model gaining a sporty bodykit and extra oomph, the wheels needed to look the part. Fortunately they do.
Volkswagen Up! GTI
To make the little sports city car even sweeter, the Up! GTI comes with wheels called ‘Oswald’ that add to the dynamic nature of a VW GTI model. The mixture of triangles and unequal hexagons look great with the Up! sat on top of them.
Skoda Octavia vRS
Skoda vRS models always need that extra pop to make them stand out compared to standard editions, and the latest Octavia vRS wheels are quite something. The five elements look like they are floating as they are set on a black background then surrounded in the black tyres. They really help to give the vRS a lot of presence on the road.
