16 New Electric Fords by 2022: What to expect

With the American firm confirming 40 electrified models by 2022, we take a look at what to expect in terms of battery-powered options.

As with most other brands, Ford is looking towards the future by establishing a series of electric vehicles for its range in the next few years.

The American firm is going to introduce 40 electrified models by 2022 – with 16 of them set to be battery-powered.

But what all-electric vehicles can we expect to see from Ford in the next few year? We take a look…

Ford Fiesta

Well, what is most likely is that vehicles such as the Fiesta and the Focus will get an electric powertrain – especially following the news that both will be getting mild hybrid powertrains in 2020.

A Fiesta EV would likely go up against the newly-introduced Peugeot e208 and Volkswagen’s upcoming ID., which could both be credible rivals to the well-established fuel-powered Fiesta anyway.

A Focus EV on the other hand would be going up against the likes of the next generation Volkswagen e-Golf, Hyundai’s Ioniq Electric and the BMW i3.

But as with most other manufacturers, Ford will likely move towards electric SUVs and one is rumoured to be unveiled in the coming months.

New models will also be in the pipeline for the American firm, with a Mustang-inspired SUV, currently called the ‘Mach 1’ set debut by 2021. That is likely to have a 300-mile electric range and feature styling inspired by the world-famous sports car.

Although it won’t be available in the UK, it is also expected that Ford will look to make electrified versions of its F-Series pick-up trucks, including America’s best-selling model, the F-150.

Ford has kept the cars of their electric future close to their chest, but more is expected to be confirmed at the brand’s Go Further event, which is taking place on April 2.
