2015 Toyota Avensis saloon and estate announced

The 2015 Toyota Avensis is now available to order, with a new design outside and in, more equipment and new engines, including a 1.6-litre diesel. Prices will start from £17,765 for the saloon, while a Tourer estate will also be available and the first customer deliveries are expected in June.

Externally the Avensis has a sharper look, with a nose inspired by the ‘X’ motif first seen adorning the Toyota Aygo supermini. Heavily sculpted side sills, new alloy wheels and re-styled rear lights complete the makeover.

Inside, there’s a 4.2-inch colour TFT screen nestled between the main instruments, giving the driver audio, phone, navigation and safety information. Trim levels start with Active and progress through Business Edition, Business Edition Plus and the top Excel grade.

Equipment is generous, with air-con, cruise control, LED daytime running lights and Toyota’s Pre-Crash Safety system all standard. Business Edition brings features like touchscreen sat-nav, DAB radio and Automatic High Beam, with LED headlights and smart entry if you upgrade to Plus.

Excel brings connected services, a ten-speaker stereo, leather upholstery and adaptive headlights. The Tourer estate also gets a panoramic sunroof. If you want to stand out, a Chrome Pack adds exterior trim highlights for £250.

The 1.6-litre diesel has 110bhp and 199lb/ft of torque allied to a six-speed manual gearbox and can return 68.9mpg while returning 108g/km of CO2. The 2.0-litre D4D diesel has 141bhp and can still return 62.8mpg and emits 119g/km of CO2, costing £30 in annual road tax.

A 1.8-litre petrol will also be offered with either a six-speed manual or CVT auto gearbox, averaging around 47mpg.
