2016 Renaultsport Megane Cup-S boasts more power

Renault has updated its Megane Renaultsport hot hatch range with a more powerful engine and new specification called Cup-S. Available to order now, first UK deliveries of the updated Renaultsport Megane will take place this November.

Pricing starts at £23,935 for the new 275 Cup-S model. Compared to the outgoing Renaultsport 265 specification, the Cup-S is not only more powerful but also has a cheaper starting price.

The output from the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is increased by 10bhp to a total of 271bhp. This engine is hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox. This results in a 0-62mph sprint time of just six seconds, while official fuel economy and CO2 figures are at 37.7mpg and 174g/km respectively. Benefitting efficiency is the use of stop-start engine technology as standard.

As standard the Cup-S also features the Renault Cup Chassis Pack which provides firmer suspension springs and dampers, a stiffer anti-roll bar and a mechanical limited-slip differential. All of this helps sharpen up the ride in a way that should strongly appeal to track day enthusiasts. Standard luxury kit, meanwhile, includes cruise control, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity.

Above the Cup-S is the 275 Nav model, which is considered a direct replacement for the 265 specification. It has the same powertrain and performance figures as the Cup-S but costs £25,935. For the extra £2,000 spent, the hot hatch offers more luxury kit such as satellite navigation, automatic headlights and wipers, dual-zone climate control, and a rear parking camera plus sensors.
