2017 Fiat 500L gets new looks and technology

Fiat has revealed updates for its 500L MPV range, including updated styling and new technology and customisation options.

Tweaks to the 500L’s eccentric styling include an altered grille and restyled bumpers. New LED daytime running lights carried over from the Fiat 500 also feature, along with new fog lights and reversing lights.

There are also more exterior colours to choose and with the ability to have a contrasting colour for the roof, there are now up to 37 colour combinations possible.

New derivative names and tech

The line-up for the Fiat 500L range has been completely revised too. The refreshed model comes in three variants, with the more standard 500L derivative now referred to as Urban.

The longer seven-seat version is now called the Wagon instead of the MPW. Also, the more rugged, taller variant designed with light off-roading in mind is now called the 500L Cross instead of the Trekking.

Changes to the 500L’s interior include a new steering wheel with multifunction controls, improved storage and materials, a new central armrest and a TFT centre digital dial display.

Range-topping models also get a seven-inch Uconnect touchscreen system which comes with sat-nav and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Speaking of tech, the 500L’s safety kit list also now includes autonomous emergeny braking, while a rear-view camera will also be added later in 2017. A vast array of option packs will allow customers to personalise their 500L to fit all sorts of preferences.

Engines haven’t changed much for the revised 500L range. Options include a 1.4-litre petrol with 94bhp or 118bhp in turbo form, as well as a 94bhp 1.3-litre diesel and 1.6-litre diesel with 118bhp.

The refreshed Fiat 500L will reportedly launch in the UK during this summer and pricing and spec details will be confirmed closer to the car’s arrival time.
