2017 Jaguar XF Sportbrake: first teaser image released

Jaguar has revealed the first official image of its much-anticipated 2017 XF Sportbrake.

The first official image of the next-generation Jaguar XF Sportbrake has been released, ahead of the premium estate’s full reveal later this year. Jaguar is adding the Sportbrake estate to its latest XF line-up a couple of years after the current-generation saloon was first launched.

With the Sportbrake, Jaguar will target the likes of the BMW 5 Series Touring, Audi A6 Avant and Mercedes E-Class Estate. The first official teaser image gives little away in regards to the new Sportbrake’s design, since it shows the car from a directly overhead viewpoint.

It’s reasonable to anticipate though that the face of the new Sportbrake will be very similar to the current XF saloon. Like the saloon too, the new XF Sportbrake makes extensive use of aluminium to deliver a strong but lightweight construction, saving weight compared to the previous XF estate.

The teaser image confirms that the new XF Sportbrake has a new, significantly larger panoramic glass roof. Gloss black roof rails are another noticeable design feature.

While little else is given away by the teaser image, Jaguar has also teased the side profile of the new XF Sportbrake, albeit by less conventional means. As shown in the image above, Jaguar has painted the car’s side profile onto the grass of Wimbledon’s Centre Court as part of a publicity stunt.

Jaguar’s design director Ian Callum, who saw the XF Sportbrake silhouette take shape at Centre Court, said: “With XF Sportbrake we’ve created a silhouette which sweeps towards the rear, almost into the distance.

“It will bring new levels of practicality to the range without sacrificing the dynamic design and agile handling our customers expect.”
