2017 RUF CTR is a 911-inspired 700bhp retro sports car

RUF Automobile, known for tuning Porsche sports cars, has revealed a car which looks an awful lot like a classic 911 but is actually based on their own independent platform. We knew just prior to the start of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show that RUF were planning to bring something based on a unique platform to the event.

While the cars usually offered by RUF are based on the architecture of existing Porsche models, the underpinnings of the 2017 CTR were developed in-house from the ground up by the company.

The car is based on a previous creation by RUF which was called the CTR Yellowbird, originally launched back in 1987. While the original was basically a tuned version of a previous-generation Porsche 911, the new incarnation is more independent.

While the exterior of the new RUF CTR doesn’t look much different to the original model, giving it a strong retro vibe, the underpinnings are much more modern and offer far superior performance.

Built with a lightweight carbon fibre tub, the 2017 RUF CTR weighs roughly the same as modern-day superminis but also has a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre flat six engine. This is tuned to produce a whopping 700bhp.

Equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox too, the new CTR can cover the 0-62mph sprint in less than 3.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 225mph.

Anyone interested in owning this nostalgic and incredibly fast RUF will have to act fast since its makers only plan to build 30 examples. Each will cost approximately €750,000 (roughly £650,000) before taxes.
