2017 SEAT Ateca gets sporty FR trim and new 187bhp engine

SEAT has added a sporty new FR trim to the Ateca SUV, which brings a touch of performance-inspired styling to the range, plus a new 187bhp engine.

Similar in essence to the popular Leon FR, which bridges the gap between the regular Leon range and the Leon CUPRA hot hatch, SEAT says the Ateca FR “adds yet another level of excitement” to its first SUV.

Compared to the standard model, the Ateca FR gets a choice of exclusive 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels, along with body-coloured wheel arches and side skirts with aluminium moulding.

Other exterior touches include a rear spoiler and FR-exclusive rear bumpers, along with a gloss black grille, black roof rails and FR badging on the front and rear.

Inside, there’s a multi-function sports steering wheel with contrasting red stitching, along with sports seats that come upholstered in a choice of either Alcantara or leather.

In addition to the appearance updates, the Ateca FR also benefits from the addition of a new 187bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine, which comes with either a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Customers can choose to specify their car with four-wheel drive, while SEAT’s Dynamic Chassis Control and progressive steering are also available as options.

Pricing for the 2017 SEAT Ateca FR has yet to be unveiled, but you can expect to know more prior to the car’s official launch this summer.
