2017 Subaru Impreza to debut at New York motor show

The next-generation Subaru Impreza will make its public debut on 23rd March at the New York motor show. The car will be unveiled in both saloon and five-door hatchback forms.

All-new platform

Subaru says the new Impreza has been completely redesigned from the ground up. It will be the first car to be built on Subaru’s new scalable Global Platform, which will be used for other new Subaru models in the future.

The new platform will be capable of incorporating both hybrid and electric powertrains, although whether the new Impreza will feature either has yet to be confirmed.

Subaru revealed a concept for the Impreza hatchback at the Tokyo Motor Show last October (seen in the image below), while a saloon concept followed at the Los Angeles motor show last November. The new production Impreza at New York will likely share many of the same styling cues.

Upgrades and rivals

Like previous Imprezas, the new one will also utilise four-wheel drive and it will benefit from Subaru’s latest award-winning safety technology. Subaru also promises upgraded in-car technology, a sleeker body design and a more spacious interior for its new Impreza.

Although it has yet to have been officially confirmed that the new Impreza is coming to Britain, it is almost certain that the hatchback version will arrive to this market next year. Like the current Impreza hatchback offered right now, the new Subaru will compete against the likes of the Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus and Kia Cee’d for UK sales.
