2017 Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer takes the new Insignia off-road

Vauxhall has unveiled the latest addition to the all-new Insignia range, the all-wheel drive Insignia Country Tourer.

Envisioned as a tougher, more off-road friendly version of the Insignia, the Country Tourer features all-round black protective cladding and silver front and rear skid plates for a hardier appearance.

Ground clearance has been raised by 20mm over the standard Insignia to allow it to tackle rough terrain, while two electronically controlled multi-plate clutches on the rear axle better apportions power to each wheel.

Vauxhall says the four-wheel drive system can also improve on-road stability at speed, while the car features the Drive Mode Control software which allows drivers to swap between different driving modes.

Practicality is also a big focus, with keyless entry and an automatically-opening tailgate as standard, while the 1,665-litre boot is a full 135 litres bigger than that on the previous Insignia Country Tourer.

The wheelbase is 92mm bigger than before so there’s more room for passengers on the inside, while 40/20/40 folding seats are an option, along with roof racks that can carry up to 100kg in weight.

Exact powertrain options have yet to be unveiled, but Vauxhall says the car will come with a broad range of engine options, including a new range-topping diesel and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The new Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer will make its official public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, and is expected to go on sale in the UK later this year.
