2017 World Car of the Year Awards shortlist confirmed

The final three contenders for the 2017 World Car of the Year award have been chosen. The prestigious honour will be contended for between the Audi Q5, Jaguar F-PACE and Volkswagen Tiguan.

The World Car of the Year awards, over seen by 75 international jurors, comprise of six categories this year, including the main accolade. Each car on the final shortlist for the main award this year falls under the crossover SUV segment, reflecting the current global popularity of such cars.

One of the main award’s finalists, the F-PACE, is the only car that could potentially win more than one category this year. Jaguar’s first production SUV is also in contention for the World Car Design of the Year award, where it is up against the Mercedes S-Class and Toyota C-HR.

Other 2017 World Car of the Year categories

The new World Urban Car of the Year award makes its debut among the categories this year and the final three in contention for this are the BMW i3 (with its 94Ah battery), the Citroen C3 and the Suzuki Ignis.

Fighting for the 2017 World Luxury Car of the Year accolade is the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class and the Volvo S90/V90.

The World Performance Car of the Year nominees include the Audi R8 Spyder, McLaren 570S and Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman.

Finally, the World Green Car of the Year this year has the Chevrolet Bolt, Tesla Model X and Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid.

The shortlisted cars for each World Car of the Year category were confirmed during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and the winner of each category will be announced at the New York International Auto Show on April 13th later this year.
