Following the reveal of the saloon version early last month, Audi has released images of the estate version that comes with 565 litres of boot space.

After Audi revealed the new A6 saloon in March, the German firm has now taken the covers off the estate version.

Called the A6 Avant, it comes with the same fascia and body lines on the front half as the saloon model, but adds a larger loading compartment at the rear and a little more passenger space.

Built to be incredibly practical and comfortable, the Avant comes with the most interior space in its class and the boot has 565 litres of space, which can be extended to 1,680 litres when the 40/20/40 split rear seats are folded down.

All powertrains used in the A6 Avant are mild hybrids that are supplemented by a 48V electrical system. This is used to recover energy under braking and then allow the engine to be switched off while the car is coasting between speeds of 34mph and 99mph, improving fuel economy.

Those units are paired to the quattro all-wheel drive system and either a seven-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission – while the optional sport differential helps improve cornering speed. The top speed of the A6 Avant is 155mph.

With four suspension options available, the Avant comes with the drive select dynamic system, which also controls the all-wheel steering and sport differential settings, as well as offering different suspension settings.

Apart from the additional space, the interior layout and cockpit is the same as the saloon – so that means the Virtual Cockpit is placed behind the steering wheel and the dual-screen central setup is present.

Leather and wood trim is found throughout the interior, and customers can choose from four equipment lines – sport, design, design selection and S line – with plenty of customisation options available.

In terms of safety equipment, the A6 Avant comes with adaptive cruise control that factors in speed limits and cornering, HD Matrix LED headlights, crossing assist, rear cross traffic assist and emergency assist – which stops the car when the driver doesn’t respond to any feedback and calls the emergency services.

Prices and delivery dates are yet to be confirmed, but expect it to start from upwards of £35,000.
