The fifth-generation Honda CR-V has been available around the globe for some time now, but at last, it’s coming to Europe.
The Japanese manufacturer today revealed the version we’ll be getting over in this part of the world, which brings the first seven-seat CR-V to the UK along with hybrid technology to a Honda SUV the first time.
It comes with a fresh, but still recognisable, design with a boxy aesthetic complimented by muscular wheel arches and sharp contours on the bonnet and rear quarter panel — topped off by the latest version of Honda’s trademark grille design. Not only does the new appearance bring the CR-V up to date with current design trends, but Honda also claims it also makes this a class-leader in aerodynamic efficiency.
Inside the car, there’s now more room than its predecessors thanks to a longer wheelbase. Alongside this, the boot is now deeper while the addition of a hands-free tailgate allows for easy access. Also, for the first time on a CR-V in Europe, customers can opt for seven seats.
Another first for Europe is the hybrid drivetrain which makes its SUV debut here on the fifth-generation CR-V. It compromises of a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors with power sent to the front wheels through a CVT gearbox — but Honda has yet to reveal full details of its performance. All-wheel drive is also optional.
Don’t want a hybrid? There’s also the choice of a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which can be mated to either a six-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
Expect pricing, availability and full equipment levels to be revealed following the Honda CR-V’s European debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, taking place from March 6-18.
