Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off its latest version of the CLS premium coupe, with a new range of six cylinder engines added.

The four-door fastback has had a complete design overhaul from the previous model, with the CLS integrating Mercedes’s new design language that has been seen on other ranges.

That means a large grille, angled LED headlights, chiselled body features and a sloping roof line, as well as the LED taillights being placed lower down the vehicle to create a wider looking back end.

The interior design is centred around the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display that is part of widescreen dual-display that stretches from the instrument binnacle. Other features include seats designed especially for the CLS, five seats (a first for the model), a premium material finish with leather upholstery and a 40/20/40 split rear bench.

The three engines available from launch are two guises of a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine – producing 282bhp and 335bhp – and a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol that is paired to an electric motor to form mild hybrid configuration, which produces 362bhp and offers great fuel consumption and better emissions.

Although performance figures have yet to be released, the CLS will likely have an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

As standard it comes with active brake assist, lane keeping assist, speed keeping assist and the Pre-Safe occupant safety system – with the optional driving assistance plus package also on offer.

Pricing for the new CLS has yet to be revealed, but it will be coming on sale in the UK in March next year.
