2018 Volkswagen Golf R performance pack

2018 Volkswagen Golf R gets Performance Pack

The optional pack adds body detailing, a new braking system and unique alloy wheels, as well as derestricting the top speed.

Volkswagen is shedding weight from its Golf R hot hatch and estate by offering the Performance Pack from today.

The package also removes the electric speed limiter, meaning the hatch has a top speed of 166mph, while the estate version can reach 168mph – making the most of the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 305bhp.

Coming with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive as standard, the Golf R Performance pack adds a titanium sports exhaust system – which reduces the weight of the car by 7kg – and the R Performance braking system, shedding a further 2kg, to the hatch.

An Akrapovic sports exhaust system is also available, which costs an extra £2,975.

As well as ‘Speilberg’ 19-inch alloy wheels replacing the standard 18-inch rims, VW also adds a spoiler lip to the boot that adds an extra 20kg of downforce.

With Driving Mode Selection, customers can choose how the car drives with Eco, Normal, Sport and Race options on offer.

The standard Golf R models come packed with safety systems – such as front assist, blind spot sensors and traffic jam assist – and a full infotainment system that includes a central touchscreen and active info display in the instrument binnacle.

The Performance pack is a £2,300 addition to the price of the Golf R, which in hatchback guise costs £32,710. The estate version starts from £35,700.
