2019 BMW X7: Biggest beast in the BMW lineup

The new seven-seater is coming this year and the flagship will be the best passenger and load hauler in the BMW line-up.

As of this year, BMW will be introducing a new flagship model to its SUV range – the X7.

Combining luxury with a large SUV body means that the X7 is likely to make a lot of waves in the segment in this coming year – going up against the likes of the Range Rover and Mercedes GLS.

But how practical is the X7 and how effective will it be at getting you, your family and any kit you need around? We take a look…

Lots of storage space

2019 BMW X7

It’s safe to say that the X7 can accommodate both a lot of people and a lot of kit, with the boot offering 326 litres with all seven seats in place. But with the maximum seat usage likely to be five most of the time, you can fold the rearmost seats down to have 750 litres of storage behind the second set of seats.

To further prove the model’s credentials is that if you don’t have any need for the rear seats at all on a journey, you can access 2,120 litres of storage when all the seats are folded flat. That’s incredibly impressive.

High towing weight

With many large SUVs, customers will want or need to tow a trailer, so it’s good to hear that X7 drivers will be able to tow up to 2,200kg of weight. That upper limit is dependent on whether the trailer is braked or not, as unbraked trailers must weigh no more than 750kg to comply with driving standards.

Passenger space is excellent

Even with seven seats in place, passengers won’t be wanting for more space, with the large cabin made even more light and airy thanks to the large panoramic glass roof that comes as standard.

If you want the middle row of passengers to have even more comfort, customers can choose to remove the middle bench of three seats and replace it with two captain’s chairs, which come with armrests and extended cup holders as well as offering the same level of comfort as the front seats.
