Ford has taken the covers off the new ST version of its popular Focus hatchback.
Developed by Ford’s Performance division, the ST will be offered in both hatch and estate versions with one of two engines.
The more efficient 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel develops 187bhp, while the performance engine of choice is the 276bhp, 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol – which is a detuned version of the unit used in the last Focus RS and comes with a twin-scroll turbo and anti-lag for optimum power delivery.
Ford claims the ST fitted with the petrol unit will get from 0-60mph in under six seconds.
Leo Roeks, Ford Performance director for Europe, said: “The EcoBoost petrol and EcoBlue diesel powertrains have unique characters, but are equally charismatic.
“The Focus ST’s sporty ‘pops and bangs’ soundtrack perfectly matches the car’s feisty performance and is an essential part of the ST experience.”
It is the first front-wheel drive Ford to come with an electronic limited-slip differential to improve traction, while rev-matching is available alongside both transmission options – a six-speed manual and a new seven-speed automatic.
The ST also features larger performance brakes for additional stopping power, steering torque disturbance reduction, bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres and three driving modes as standard – Slippery/Wet, Normal and Sport.

The cabin features a sports steering wheel, Recaro sports seats, metal plates and pedals, the Sync3 infotainment with eight-inch touchscreen and smartphone compatibility and a series of safety assists.
The Focus ST will go on sale in the summer, with prices to be announced in due course.
