2019 Mercedes-Benz B-Class unveiled at Paris

The German manufacturer has introduced the latest safety and infotainment technology systems to the MPV.

Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off an all-new B-Class at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.

Replacing the second-generation model that has been in production since 2011, the new B-Class employs technology from new A-Class and goes on sale in December.

The family-angled ‘Sports Tourer’ is fitted with the brand’s latest features, including the recently introduced MBUX infotainment system and the Intelligent Drive functions. This includes semi-autonomous functions to help reduce driver fatigue and improve safety.

Features from the Intelligent Drive setup use multiple sensors and cameras built around the car and include active distance assist, active emergency stop assist, active lane change assist and active brake assist.

As in the A-Class, the dual-screen setup in the cockpit comes with three different combinations of seven- or 10.25-inch displays for the customer to choose from.

The B-Class will be offered with five powertrain options, including the 200d and 220d based on a new 2.0-litre diesel unit, with each producing 148bhp and 188bhp respectively.

The 114bhp ‘180’, 161bhp ‘200’ petrol engines and 114bhp 180d diesel unit will be paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, while the 200d and 220d will be teamed with an eight-speed alternative.

Pricing and UK specifications are yet to be unveiled, but deliveries of the model will begin in February 2019.
