2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA revealed as 533bhp performance powerhouse

Most extreme version of the Giulia yet can cover 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds.

Alfa Romeo has unleashed its most extreme version of the Giulia saloon yet — the 533bhp GTA.

Built as a celebration of Alfa Romeo’s 110th birthday, as well as a tribute to the Giulia Sprint GT of 1965, just 500 examples of this high-performance saloon are set to be made.

It builds on the Giulia Quadrifoglio, with the 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 found in that car receiving a 30bhp power boost. It still delivers its grunt to the rear wheels, with a 0-60mph time of 3.6 seconds said to be possible.

Paired up to the beefed-up engine is a new Akrapovic exhaust setup that complements the appropriately-shouty bodywork additions.

Though it may look a bit like a boy racer bodge job, that extensive aerodynamic kit is a functional addition. Dubbed the Sauber Aerokit, it’s been honed by Sauber Engineering — which operates the Alfa Romeo Formula One team — in its wind tunnel to optimise downforce. Elements in this kit include an aggressive front bumper design, extended wheel arches and a model-specific rear wing.

Though the car looks bulkier with its brash bodykit, weight is actually down overall thanks to the introduction of a carbon fibre driveshaft, bonnet, roof, front bumper and seat shells.

Taking things a step further is the GTAm. This no-compromise version of the car sees a huge rear wing added to the car, as well as the removal of its rear seats in favour of a roll cage for increased chassis rigidity.  Door panels have also been removed while its interior handles have been replaced with fabric pulls for even further weight savings.

Both the GTAm and regular GTA feature heavy use of Alcantara throughout the cabin too.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed for the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, though buyers will also receive a personalised Alpinestars racing suit and matching Bell helmet. Driver training courses are on the options list as well.
