Featuring the same plug-in hybrid powertrain as the previously announced X1 xDrive25e, the SUV features a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor and a 10kWh battery to produce a combined 217bhp and 385Nm of torque.
It allows for the two models to travel for up to 35 miles on electricity, with charging times of just 3.2 hours if the cars are plugged into a BMW i Wallbox. CO2 emissions as low as 43g/km are promised, along with fuel economy figures of up to 148.7mpg, providing the car is charged frequently.
The new X2 xDrive25e is marginally quicker than the X1, with a 0-60mph time of 6.7 seconds, and a top speed of 121mph. This new plug-in hybrid version of the sleeker X2 will be available this summer.
As for the more spacious X1 xDrive25e, order books are now open with first deliveries arriving in March. Prices for this hybrid start from £38,200, with this model being available in trim levels such as Sport, xLine and M Sport. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, sports seats and two-zone climate control.
The same trim levels are likely to be mirrored with the X2, with this model likely to be around £1,000 more expensive, should it follow the same price increase as the regular petrol and diesel range.See Available X2 Deals
The X2 xDrive25e will become BMW’s fourth plug-in hybrid SUV, with electrified versions of the X5 and X3 also available.
