2021 Jeep Compass unveiled

The updated model comes with a new engine and additional technology

Jeep has revealed an updated version of its mid-size Compass crossover.

The Compass sits between the Renegade and Cherokee in Jeep’s line-up, and has been around since 2017 in its current guise.

This latest update sees a new turbocharged 1.3-litre petrol engine being introduced, which you’ll find already in Jeep’s Renegade and the Fiat 500X. You can choose it with either 128bhp or 148bhp – the former being mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and the latter a six-speed automatic transmission. They’re also front-wheel-drive, and it’s the first time that an automatic gearbox has been available on a front-driven Compass.

It replaces the previous turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine, which you could have with either 138bhp or 168bhp, with Jeep claiming that this new engine is up to 30 per cent more efficient than its predecessor. A new ‘Sport’ mode is also now available on the automatic gearbox.

A 118bhp 1.6-litre diesel remains available, while later this year a new ‘4xe’ plug-in hybrid version will join the line-up, which will be available with either 187bhp or 237bhp.

New functions are also available on the ‘Uconnect’ touchscreen systems, which allow for further connected serviced – including emergency call and remote access.

This updated Compass is also being produced in Italy for the first time – at the firm’s Melfi plant, which also produces the Fiat 50X and Jeep Renegade, too. Due to now being produced in Europe, the firm is promising reduced waiting times as well.

Prices and specs will be announced later in the year before the model arrives in showrooms.
