2022 Honda HR-V: Here's what you need to know

Honda’s HR-V is packed with features and a whole host of styling touches.

Honda’s HR-V has arrived with a whole new look and an innovative cabin. It’s hybrid-only, too, reinforcing Honda’s commitment to electrification. Needless to say, it’s got loads of features and aspects to talk about, which is why we’re going to be taking a closer look at it today.

So let’s dive in and see what’s what with this new Honda HR-V.

It’s got a whole new look

Though the previous HR-V was far from an ugly duckling, this new version really has taken things to a whole new level in terms of design. We’ve got a bold body-coloured grille, while above it sits a full-width light bar which lends the HR-V a particularly futuristic aesthetic.

It’s also got 10mm more ground clearance than the previous HR-V, which helps to give it a little more presence out on the road.

It’s hybrid-only

As we’ve already mentioned, the HR-V will only be offered with a hybrid powertrain. It’s similar to the one you’ll find in the Jazz, combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a pair of electric motors.

Honda has said that the motors are the primary source of propulsion for the HR-V, with the engine instead being used to feed power to these electric motors. Only at higher speeds is the engine called into action full time.

There’s more interior space than before

Because the HR-V sits on Honda’s new ‘Global Small Platform’, it can offer more in the way of cabin space than its predecessor could. In fact, despite retaining the same compact dimensions of the older HR-V, it can deliver 35mm more rear legroom.

It means that if you’re after a car with compact exterior dimensions but a roomy interior, the HR-V could be the way to go.

It uses Honda’s ‘Magic Seats’

The Honda ‘Magic Seat’ system has already wowed buyers on all manner of the firm’s cars, so it’s little surprise to see it included on the new HR-V. Thanks to a clever mechanism, the rear seats ‘roll’ forwards and provide a huge, flat load area.

In fact, it’s large enough for Honda to state that two full-size mountain bikes can fit in there.
