362bhp Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 unveiled

Mercedes has unveiled a new ‘roided-up version of its GLC Coupe crossover, the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43.

Sitting just below the full-bore V8-powered AMG version, the GLC 43 is instead powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol, along with four-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

It’s certainly fast enough to be worthy of the hallowed AMG badge, with a total output of 362bhp, which is enough to get it from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds with a 155mph top speed.

It also gets some AMG styling extras over the standard GLC Coupe, with a deeper front bumper and bigger air intakes, plus a bespoke front grille and 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels as standard.

Flared-out side skirts and a boot spoiler also come as standard, while quad exhaust pipes and a smattering of AMG badges complete the car’s look.

Inside, the cabin is much the same as the standard GLC but features custom instrument dials, front sports seats and some contrasting red and black bits on the upholstery.

Standard equipment includes a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a scroll wheel interface and touchpad, along with Bluetooth connectivity and a CD player.

Optional extras include the likes of Mercedes’ COMAND Online system which adds a larger 8.4-inch screen, in-car wifi and buyers can also choose the option of a 13-speaker Burmester sound system.

Despite the fire-breathing engine, Mercedes says it’ll still return around 33mpg with 192g/km of CO2, which won’t make it cheap by any measure, but it isn’t bad at all for a car of its power.

Prices yet to be confirmed

Keeping all that brawn in check is an upgraded suspension setup with adjustable air suspension, along with adjustable steering modes to change the weight of the wheel depending on the situation.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 is the latest in a string of AMG 43-badged models, which serve as a slightly cheaper and less hardcore entry point to AMG ownership.

Prices have yet to be announced, but it’s expected that more will be known following the car’s public debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
